Acne and Me: Overcoming the dreaded dots

Q:Hi. I have extremely oily skin with acne scars here and there. I use the Rimmel long lasting 25 hours foundation. But after only two hours, I get extremely oily. After four hours, my skin looks like it's melting off. Can you recommend a good foundation that looks natural, lasts long and keeps me matte? I'm desperate :(

Hello! As a fellow oil bag (in the nicest way), I can understand your frustration. I deal with this everyday day. It sucks. I hate it.

A tip that I found worked pretty well is to pat your face with a 1 ply tissue after you apply foundation (wait a minute or two. Do your brows or your eyes first) and then set it. The first oil blotting will help to get rid of an excess oil or foundation before you set it.

I haven’t found a foundation that will keep me matte for hours and hours. The most it’s ever stayed semi matte (because i get oily after 10 minutes) is about 2 hours. I just blot my face a lot. Those foundations that say that it will control my oil and keep me matte are l-i-e-s. During work hours, I would go to the bathroom every couple of hours, blot and powder my face. I have an “emergency bag” in my cabinet with a spare concealer that I’ll use if i need to. For me the goal isn’t staying oil free but is to make people believe that I am oil free. ;)

The best foundation primer that I used that helps keep my oil free a little longer is the Philosophy “the present” makeup. The only downside is that you have to wait about 5 minutes after you apply the primer before you apply foundation because it needs to set.

I don’t have a current favorite foundation because right now, I’m just trying to use all of mine up. =D

I know this is soooo not what you want to hear, but it’s the truth. Sorry!

On the Bright side, those with oily skin age more gracefully. =)

Mineral Makeup Review!

This was a post I did about half a year or so ago on my random rambling blog, but I decided to copy and paste it onto this one.

I have really oily skin and out of all types of foundation and I have found that mineral makeup to be the best in terms of lasting power and oil control. Great for summer makeup. Don’t get me wrong! I love my BB creams and liquid foundations, but min. makeup is almost foolproof! They are all pretty water and sweat resistant as well as hug resistant! These are my top 3.

Q:hey, luv. we dont have winter here. cons of living in south east asia. im actually using cream foundation. D: i use the revlon one step compact cream powder foundation. it actually is rly good. it light on my skin and it has oxyderm. even when i sweat, it manages to act as my skin like idk if you understand. but i am kinda eyeing physicians formula organic wear tinted moisturiser. its not sold here tho. blahh.

iwasa-fucking-wreck

true true. I don’t have it so I definitely doesn’t know what it feels like. But I do have extremely oily skin that makes my makeup melt off and makes me look like…*shiver*. I do have to use special products and continuously monitor my skin so that I don’t look like a greaseball.

If the revlon cream to powder foundation works well on your skin, definitely continue using it. It isn’t very often we find products that actually fit well with our skin. I still haven’t found my perfect perfect foundation (though my missha and fairydrops bb creams come close).

The best bet is a dermatologist because he or she will most likely be able to treat it and you can worry about the excess sweating a little less.

I know a lot of you were asking about how to applying makeup for acne, and so I searched the internet and youtube videos (I can’t do it myself bc I don’t have a good enough video cam but one day I promise!!!), and I found one that I think is really good. My makeup routine is very similar to hers, it’s just that I use different products! =D

It is also inspiring for anyone who is self conscious about baring your skin. I know I am always self conscious about posting photos, and this person really broke barriers by not only posting a video showing her bare skin, but posting it on a site where anyone can see it and comment on it. Please watch and if you are going to comment under her account, please don’t make it nasty. Remember, the people who post up these videos are people too and they have feelings just like us. =D

Q:Hello. Its me again. :D so i need a few advice from a good adviser like you. I have dry skin but i know youre going to say to buy a moisturiser/hydrator. Heres the catch, i also have facial hyperhidrosis, excess sweating. Its a problem for me yknow. I cant do matte makeup bcuz ill wipe everything away. I feel like a pig. D: do you have any advice on that? I might apply for a dermatologist but waiting list will keep up to a few months. How do you think i should do my facial routine and makeup? Th

iwasa-fucking-wreck

Hey! What’s up? Lol You’re making me blush! Thanks

Yes, you are correct that I am going to tell you to use a hydrator or moisturizer. I think a hydrator is faster absorbing so that may be a better option. MAke sure you drink lots of water now that it is winter and your skin is more prone to dryness. Whether or not you have facial hyperhidrosis or not, your skin is the last to get hydrated so a good hydrator, that absorbs into your skin (not just sit on it) will definitely help.

Over active sweat glands are a huge problem especially when it comes to makeup. There are tons of brands that say they are sweatproof, oil control etc and yet, THEY”RE LIARS! lol… In terms of makeup, mineral and airbrushing foundations are your best bet. They tend to stay on your skin a lot longer and is what I’d recommend for people in the summer when they are outside constantly and sweating. On another note, BB creams work pretty well as well. I feel that as long as you don’t swipe your face (just pat dry) when you are removing sweat, it does stay on a lot longer.

Definitely look into going to a dermatologist. He/she can recommend a skin care line that can meet your needs as long as you talk to them. Don’t let them just steam roll over you. Tell them your problems and not only listen, but engage him/her in conversation to really get an understanding of how to deal with hyperhidrosis in the long term.

RIght now, I would suggest, because you do have dry skin, look into alcohol free toners, serums and hydrators. Your cleanser should also be for dry or combo skin. Don’t buy ones suited for oily skin, because it’s not going to help your dry skin problem at all.

Makeup wise, mineral or airbrush foundation. Blot your face, don’t swipe when you are removing sweat. Keep a touch up foundation with you (like a pressed foundation) so that you can touch up when needed. Cream based foundations are probably the worst because they melt off the quickest (for me at least).

I hope this helped!!!! Good luck!

I hope this helped
